Portland International Guitar Series opens with Jason Vieaux
US Classic Guitar will open the 2019-20 Portland International Guitar Series XV Oct. 27 with a 5 p.m. concert featuring American guitar virtuoso Jason Vieaux, taking place at First Congregational Church, 1126 SW Park Ave., Portland.
Vieaux's program is a global classical guitar musical journey including Domenico Scarlatti's Sonata in A major, Mauro Guiliani's Variations on a theme by Handel, Op. 107, J.S. Bach's Violin Sonata 1 in G minor and more.
Light refreshments will be served before the recital at 4:15 p.m., and Vieaux will be available for a CD signing directly afterward.
Both the pre-concert and post-concert receptions will be held in the Fellowship Hall and Art Gallery downstairs, below the main sanctuary.
Among Vieaux's extensive discography is the 2015 Grammy Award winning album for Best Classical Instrumental Solo, "Play."
Vieaux has earned a reputation for putting his expressiveness and virtuosity at the service of a remarkably wide range of music, and his schedule of performing, and recording commitments is distinguished throughout the U.S. and abroad.
He is considered a first-rate chamber musician and programmer through performances with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Bard Music Festival, [email protected], San Francisco Performances, Cleveland Chamber Music Society, Strings Music Festivals, Grand Teton and many others.
