Michael Allen Harrison announces holiday concerts
Portland pianist and composer Michael Allen Harrison has announced his holiday concert series. Get tickets now, as these concerts are traditional events for many in the community.
The festivities kick off with the Play It Forward Gala taking place Nov. 21 starting at 5:30 p.m. at The Sentinel Hotel, 614 SW 11th Ave., in Portland. This is a fundraiser for Play It Forward, which shines a spotlight on music education.
For this event Harrison partners with Tony Starlight to create a magical night of entertainment Las Vegas style. Tickets are $150 each and can be purchased online at pifmusic.ejoinme.org/tickets. Play It Forward is powered by The Snowman Foundation, Harrison's nonprofit organization which provides instruments, instruction and inspiration to deserving children.
This marks the 29th season for Harrison's Christmas at the Old Church concert series. Harrison's piano arrangements will once again be paired with the vocals of gospel, blues and jazz singer Julianne Johnson. This year's cast includes special guest Jennifer Batten. Batten played with Michael Jackson for more than 10 years, accompanying him on three world tours and a Super Bowl appearance.
Another special guest is Bill Schonely, the former Portland Trail Blazer announcer. His schedule has not yet been set.
Christmas at the Old Church concerts run Dec. 13 through 26; tickets range in price from $22.50 to $59.95.
A short run of Christmas in Canby concerts will also be included this season. Hear rock violinist Aaron Meyer with Harrison at 4 p.m. and again at 7 p.m. Nov. 30.
