Kick off 2020 with your creative side. Attend the Arts Council of Lake Oswego's Drink & Draw event Jan. 23.

The Arts Council of Lake Oswego is teaming up with SCRAP PDX for a Drink & Draw Reused Art Project to take place Jan. 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. at a special location, 41 B Ave. in Lake Oswego.

Recycling and reusing have become an essential action to protect the environment, and art and creative reuse go hand-in-hand. This sustainable and relevant art form highlights the degradation of the planet in creative and positive ways. This kind of artistic expression is not new and can be compared with movements from other eras; for example, collages made by Pablo Picasso with old newspapers or magazines at the beginning of the 20th century. Artists have reused tools and materials found around them for centuries, making trash into treasures.

The Drink & Draw event will be instructed by Sarah Dooley, a SCRAP PDX teacher who is inspired by the beauty of the natural world and works with various mediums.

Attendees will have the opportunity to make a personal shrine that consists of reused materials, collage techniques and personal interpretations, while giving new meaning to materials that once had a different use. Attendees will also enjoy snacks, drinks and desserts provided by ACLO.

The Drink & Draw program is part of ACLO's mission of providing programming in the community by advancing lifelong learning about the arts through educational programs.

"These types of events expose the community to different art types and foster within the community a new understanding of art styles, techniques, and hands-on learning," said Robin Krakauer, communication and development director for ACLO. "The popular events sell out fast and have limited seating. The series has become a fun evening for a ladies' night out, couple's date or even a family affair."

Tickets are $60 each and can be purchased online at artscouncillo.org or by calling 503-675-3738. The event will be held at special location: 41 B Ave., Lake Oswego.
