The Trifecta returns to Lake Theater
For The Review, Tidings
The Trifecta — musicians Lisa Mann, Bre Gregg and Mary Kadderly — will return to the Music Monday concert series March 9 at Lake Theater and Cafe, 106 N. State St., Lake Oswego.
The women join foces to deliver a show complete with soulful performances, three-part harmony and powerful interpretations.
All three performers are onstage throughout the show, creating a band with three lead singers, three songwriters and three times the energy to share with audiences.
Mann has been inducted into the Cascade Blues Association's Hall of Fame. She received the Blues Music Award for her skills on bass guitar in 2015 and '16.
Originally from West Virginia, Mann's voice is said to straddle the line between the honey sweet warmth of the South, and the force of nature sound she has cultivated by mastering everything from rock to Memphis soul.
Her blues balladry is complemented by her prowess on bass, with grooves that touch on the soul of greats James Jamerson and Bob Babbitt.
When Gregg opens her mouth, you hear a rich musical history of visceral blues, deep soul and smoky jazz. Her voice is technically superb after years of study and performance but her ability to connect with music and her audiences make her performances profoundly intimate. Gregg's band, Red Bird, plays soulful roots music written by Gregg and Dan Gildea (guitar), who shares the lead in a musical communication that is both powerful and organic.
With a range of musical styles that reaches from jazz to blues to R&B, country western and pop, Kadderly is a singer-songwriter with a distinctive voice that's soothing, authentic and compelling. She recently released the single "She's All Eyes," a collaboration with writer Maura Conlon-McIvor.
Mann recorded Kadderly's song "I Go Zoom" on her latest CD, "Hard Times, Bad Decisions." Kadderly is on the faculty in the Music & Sonic Arts Department at Portland Community College.
