As part of its Nrityotsava 2020 concert series Kalakendra Performing Arts will present an evening of Indian classical and folk dances at 5 p.m. Feb. 22 at Lake Oswego High School auditorium, 2500 Country Club Road, Lake Oswego. Tickets are $20 and $10 for children up to age 12.

Kalakendra's mission is to introduce, promote and enhance awareness of the various performing arts of the Indian subcontinent through concerts, classical dances, recitals and lecture demonstrations.

Beit Haverim to host Jewish Arts Festival

Beit Haverim, the local Jewish congregation, will host a Hagigah, or Jewish Art Festival Feb. 29. The art festival is a fundraiser for its religious school. The event takes place from 5:30-9 p.m. at Celebrate Conference Center, 15555 S.W. Bangy Road, Lake Oswego.

"We will feature Israeli dancing with our guest dance teacher Rhona Feldman," said Rabbi Alan Berg. "Even if you like to sit at your tables, you will get in the swing of things."

The evening also includes a "kneading" exercise in the art of Jewish cooking featuring the challah mavens Erin David and Robin Kay; cantor Ann Brown will present a new song in Yiddish.

"I'm going to try to prepare a new musical setting for Emma Lazaru's poetic masterpiece 'The New Colossus,'" said Berg.

The meal will feature Israeli and Middle Eastern dishes, all created especially for the Jewish Art Festival.

Viewing new art at Creative Spirits Gallery

Creative Spirits Gallery in West Linn will present the works of two local artists during February and March. Stephanie Garber and Karla Piatt will display their paintings and glass sculptures through March 29.

Garber's dramatic paintings celebrate her love of the natural world through texture and movement, color and contrast.

Piatt uses glass and acrylics together to develop one-of-a-kind designs that explore negative space, and interrogate both material and technological boundaries.

A reception will be held at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, March 29.

Creative Spirits Gallery is located within West Linn Lutheran Church, 20390 Willamette Drive in West Linn, and is open for viewing from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.

Love Your Look for Less tea slated

The Love Your Look for Less Tea and Fashion Show will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 29 at Lake Bible Church, 4565 Carman Drive in Lake Oswego. Proceeds benefit Sam's Attic Eclectic Thrift, a nonprofit store supporting students and teachers in Uganda, Africa through Good Samaritan Ministries.
