Ten outstanding candidates vied for the opportunity to represent the community of West Linn

On Feb. 20, as is tradition, four West Linn eighth grade students were selected for the 2020 Old Time Fair Ambassador program at the historic McLean House.

Ten outstanding candidates vied for the opportunity to represent the community of West Linn.

It was an honor for Queen Avery Mickey to crown the new princesses, while each were warmly and wholeheartedly congratulated.

They are: Princess Isabella (Bella) Buzzelli is a Rosemont Ridge Middle School student. She is the daughter of Scott and Emily Hill. Her strong leadership skills are demonstrated through participation as a volunteer for the American Red Cross and supporting students with learning disabilities through the school's Club Howl program.

Princess Isabella hopes to improve her communication skills and help her community. She plans on attending California Institute of Technology and becoming a doctor. She loves to study French, reading, running and drawing.

The daughter of Daniel and Heather Gilroy, Princess Beatrice Gilroy is already making a difference through her service work in, and beyond, West Linn.

At Athey Creek Middle School she has participated in the Associated Student Body (ASB) and the South Korean Studies and Ambassador program.

She plays first and third base in softball, runs track and participates in jazz band, solo and ensemble band and District 14 Honor Band. She plans on attending college which will prepare her for a job in international affairs or law.

Princess Beatrice is looking forward to getting to know the greater West Linn community.

Princess Katherine (Kate) McLellan is the daughter of Ryan McLellan and Nicole Huberty.

Kate is also a student at Athey Creek Middle School where she is active in concert band, jazz band and the school musical. She currently plays five instruments.

She has volunteered as a foster parent for kittens for PAWS animal shelter and also volunteers at homeless shelters, retirement homes and food pantries. She is passionate about animals, playing music, theater, knitting and hanging out with her friends.

Kate plans on pursuing a career that involves helping animals or people and would like to inspire younger children to get involved in volunteer work.

Princess Hailey Stohler is the daughter of Aimee and Gregg Stohler. At Athey Creek Middle School Hailey has participated in dance, choir, homework club and as a 6th grade orientation web leader.

She is passionate about volunteer work and has helped feed the homeless, served as a leader during vacation Bible school and worked at a camp for students with special needs.

Hailey has moved around the country five times, but now calls West Linn her home. She plans on going to college to become a teacher and hopes to continue her involvement in the West Linn community.

Along with 2019 Old Time Fair Queen, Avery Mickey, they will host a Chamber of Commerce mixer in April, attend the Oregon City Pioneer Festival Teddy Bear Parade in May, the Lake Oswego Star Spangled Parade in July and attend numerous West Linn community events throughout the year, including the Earth Day Work Day, Mother Son Empire Event, Daddy Daughter Dance, Street Dance and holiday events.

This year is the 64th continuous year of the Old Time Fair. The fair will be held July 17, 18 and 19 at Willamette Park. The new queen will be selected during the opening ceremony at 6 p.m. Friday, July 17.
