Lake Oswegan Lisa Magnuson has just published her second award-winning book, "The TOP Sales Leadership Playbook: How to Win 5X Deals Repeatedly." The playbook includes 16 "plays" that every company can use to ignite their big deal engines.
Magnuson got her start in sales early in her career and moved to Lake Oswgeo when she was promoted to lead the sales organization for Xerox in the Pacific Northwest. When it became to difficult to maintain an executive position with her two young daughters she decided to start her own company, Top Line Sales, offering to lend her corporate sales and sales leadership expertise to clients in the area. This year marks 15 years since she founded Top Line Sales and her consulting business is thriving.
Magnuson's advice to women in business? Stay flexible in order to balance career and family life.
"A single model would not have worked for me throughout the years," she said. "My entire career has been spent in professional sales but I've been an individual contributor, sales leader and company owner/consultant. I've worked full-time, part-time and flex-time. I've spent the past 30 years focusing on what I can do and writing has been a constant. 'The Top Sales Leadership Playbook: How to Win 5X Deals Repeatedly' is my fourth book. Each book has opened up new opportunities and opened new doors for me. Publishing books and articles has been tremendously gratifying, even though my first editor once told me 'Lisa, you're a terrible writer but people seem to love your content. I just don't get it.'"
"The TOP Sales Leadership Playbook: How to Win 5X Deals Repeatedly" and Magnuson's other books are available on Amazon.com. You can learn more about her consulting business online at toplinesales.com.
Lake Oswego resident Gloria D. Brown and historian Donna L. Sinclair have written "Black Woman in Green, Gloria Brown and the Unmarked Trail to Forest Service Leadership." From an unlikely beginning as an agency transcriptionist in her hometown of Washington, D.C., Brown became the first African American woman to attain the rank of forest supervisor at the U.S. Forest Service. As a young widow with three children she transferred to Missoula, Montana, and embarked on a remarkable journey, ultimately leading to Siuslaw National Forest in Oregon and later the Los Padres in California. The story of Brown's career unfolds against the backdrop of a changing government agency and a changing society.
Brown's story provides valuable insight into the roles that African Amercans have carved out in the outdoors generally and in the field of environmental policy and public lands specifically. Drawing on her powerful communication and listening skills, her sense of humor and her willingness to believe in the basic goodness of humanity, Brown conducted civil rights trainings and shattered glass ceilings, all while raising children alone.
The book was published by Oregon State University Press and is available in bookstores, online at osupress.oregonstate.edu and by calling 1-800-621-2736.

"You Betrayed Me" by Lisa Jackson. After 20 years and over three milion copies sold in the series, internationally bestselling author Lisa Jackson of Lake Oswego will release the third installment featuring the Cahills, a San Francisco family as dangerous and twisted as they are rich. Jackson first introduced the Cahill family with "If She Only Knew," which went on to become her first New York Times bestseller.
Its sequel, "Almost Dead," was published in 2007, and those first two installments have gone on to sell over three million copies combined. Now, 13 years later, Jackson presents her third modern gothic featuring the Cahills, a wealthy San Francisco family rich in money, twisted secrets and hidden agendas.
The Cahills are famous for two things: their vast wealth and the scandals that surround them. Murder, greed, deadly ambition ... some people will do anything to get, and keep, the Cahills' kind of money. Not that James Cahill wants any of it. He's tried to make his own way, less interested in a future inheritance than in his construction company — and in enjoying the many women taken in by the easy charms of a handsome, soon-to-be-rich bad boy.
This book will be released June 30, 2020.
