Kids of all ages participated in the library's third annual pumpkin painting party.

Elementary and middle schoolers got a day off from school for conferences Thursday, Oct. 24, which made for a good turnout for the afternoon event at the Lake Oswego Library.

Amy Grimes, youth services librarian at the library, said this year marks the third annual pumpkin painting party at the library.PMG PHOTO: ASIA ALVAREZ ZELLER - The lower level of the library is busy with crafting kids.

"I think everyone loves fall crafts," said Hilary Evart, youth services librarian, as she looked around the room busting with paint, pumpkins and kids weaving past adults.

Last year the event was confined to just one level of the library, but this year they split it between two levels, with acrylic paint on the main level and the more washable tempera paint downstairs.

Evart praised the many volunteers who came out to help. About six volunteers helped the kids pour paint, clean brushes and stay on task. She said their help freed the librarians up to help folks who weren't there to paint.

Karis Babcock, 4, said "I'm doing details," as she painted her pumpkin with gentle strokes.

Her mom said they just heard of the event that morning but decided to pop by. PMG PHOTO: ASIA ALVAREZ ZELLER - Gavin Molnar, 4, poses with his completed pumpkin art.

Up on the first level, another mom, Heather Molnar, stood by her sons, Colin, 5, and Gavin, 4, as they painted.

She said they come to any library event that sounds fun to Colin and Gavin. They often attend the movie nights and are in the library at least once a week to stock up on books.
