Student noticed their friends didn't have masks to wear in public - so they made some

COURTESY PHOTO: KATHY LLOYD - It takes Elliott about 15 minutes to make one mask. Elliott Lloyd, a senior at Lake Oswego High School, was talking to friends recently and realized they didn't have masks to wear when they grocery shopped. Lloyd said they had all the supplies and, after finding a pattern online, was able to make masks for their friends. But it didn't stop there.

"I've been sewing since I was five," Lloyd said.

Lloyd made masks for New Seasons when they noticed the employees didn't have any. The store got masks of their own soon after and started giving the masks Lloyd made to customers who didn't have any.

Lloyd is now making masks for The Springs at Carmen Oaks, an assisted living facility in Lake Oswego. Lloyd got inquiries from LOHS classmates and was able to make masks for them as well.

Lloyd said it takes about 15 minutes to make a single mask. They've made about 150 masks since starting the project two weeks ago.

"I'm so proud of Elliott ... Elliott's always been so resourceful," Kathy Lloyd, Elliott's mom, said.
