District authorizes memorandum of understanding, moves to design phase and scheduling.

The Lake Oswego School District made a leap forward in the creation of a new pool tonight when the school board approved the memorandum of understanding, a document that puts into effect the Intergovernmental Agreement between LOSD and the city of Lake Oswego.

The MOU is a confirmation of the location of the future pool and a commitment for funding the project by both entities.

After $7 million was allocated to the restoration or rebuilding of the district pool by voters with the $187 million bond in 2017, and the city passed its own parks and recreation bond, the district and the city reached a partnership to build the pool on city property.

A joint meeting held with LOSD and the city March 16 resulted in the entities proceeding with the MOU.

The district and the city will now be able to move forward with designs and consulting for the construction of the pool at the Lake Oswego Municipal Golf Course.

Executive Director of Project Management Tony Vandenberg told the board the next steps include preparing the budget and the schedule.

Vandenberg said that, ideally, the team would break ground for the construction of the pool sometime in 2021.
