Heavy rain and wind caused widespread power loss, send students home for safety reasons.

Several Lake Oswego schools canceled classes Friday, Nov. 12, after widespread power outages caused by weather.

At 8 a.m. Lake Oswego High School, Lake Oswego Junior High and Uplands Elementary School all lost power. According to Director of Communications Mary Kay Larson, Portland General Electric told the Lake Oswego School District that the power would be turned back on at 1 p.m. at the earliest.

As the classrooms and bathrooms were too dark and the schools feared safety issues, the district decided to send students home. However, after schools emptied, the power turned back on at 9:45 a.m. Students did not return to class.

The district administration building also closed. The building is located within the same power grid as LOHS and LOJ.
