Lake Oswego split its student body after the opening of Lakeridge High in 1971. Now the two classes will celebrate 50th anniversary as the last post-split group.

COURTESY PHOTO: RYAN WILEY - The final graduating class from before the addition of Lakeridge High School will celebrate its 50th reunion in July. On June 6, 1972, over 650 high school students in Lake Oswego turned their tassels and walked the stage.

A year prior, the Lake Oswego School District opened Lakeridge High School, subsequently splitting up the graduating class.

This final pre-split graduating class will hold its 50th reunion Saturday, July 23, at Oswego Lake Country Club.

The reunion festivities will be two-fold. On Friday, the class members are invited to the Oswego Heritage House at 7 p.m. for an informal gathering to mingle and catch up with one another. On Saturday, the organizers hope people will spend the day with their former classmates, hanging out before joining together again in the evening for the main event.

At the country club, the group will gather for a night of food, music and reminiscing. Alongside current photographs of alumni to showcase what everyone is up to, there will be a 20-minute slideshow of pictures taken during their senior year.

"It is really about friends getting together. We only do this every 10 years and it is always a good and fun time," Havens said.

Currently, over 200 alumni will attend the event, and organizers said they hope to have 250 people join them.
