by: SUBMITTED PHOTO: JAMIE INGLIS - This gingerbread house at Crave Bake Shop will be a sure contender for top honors for the Lake Oswego third annual Gingerbread Competition. The regular election may be over, but Lake Oswegans can still vote in the third annual gingerbread competition.

It is an election in which there won’t be any losers, because all 16 entries are outstanding examples of the gingerbread house art. The gingerbread houses will be on display through Christmas Day.

Winners will be determined by a combination of patron votes and the votes of the Holiday Houses Review Committee. Creations will be ranked on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the best. The criteria will be: overall appearance, originality and creativity, difficulty and precision.

The winning business will be visited by a team of spirited elves who will present a trophy. The winner is allowed to brag for an entire year.

The business to beat will be Graham’s Book and Stationary, which won last year’s championship with a gingerbread house made of graham crackers and candy canes, and will be going all-out to repeat its triumph. However, competition is expected to be intense, according to Jamie Inglis, event specialist for the city of Lake Oswego.
