And this year’s NW Natural Street of Dreams will be no exception.

The 40th annual event is expected to draw 50,000-70,000 visitors to Lake Oswego in August, and its opening-night party and fashion show events will only add to the excitement.

The Street of Dreams is scheduled for Aug. 1-Aug. 30 at The Highlands, which is located at the corner of Goodall and Knaus roads. The show will feature nine homes, all of which are priced from $2.1 million to more than $3 million.

They’ll also be able to enjoy appetizers and drinks along with the tour, and afterward sit down for dinner, drinks and live entertainment from Portland singer-saxophonist Patrick Lamb.

“It’s kind of the kickoff celebration for all of Street of Dreams,” says one of the Home Builders Association’s event managers, Rachel Loveday. “We’ve been building for months and months and months for Street of Dreams, and (the Block Party) is the first time that anyone gets to see the finished homes.”

This year’s 32nd annual Block Party theme is a play on the Forest Highlands Neighborhood’s name. In true “Scottish Highlands” fashion, the event will feature whiskey tasting, bagpipes and Scottish dancing.

The event is primarily an industry kickoff celebration for Homebuilders Association members and all the sponsors, builders and partners who were involved with the Street of Dreams, but it’s also open to the public.

For others who wish to attend, event tickets are $90 each and include a home tour along with dinner and drinks. The event is typically capped at 1,300 people, Loveday says. It runs from 6-10 p.m., and tickets are available at tinyurl.com/sodblockparty.

The event’s restaurant sponsors include Nicoletta’s Table, Twigs Bistro and Martini Bar, The Olive and The Grape, Celebrate Catering, Nothing Bundt Cakes and Baja Fresh. Drink sponsors are Portland Cider Co., Lagunitas Brewing Company and Indio Spirits. Other sponsors include Community Financial, Standard TV & Appliance, NW Natural, Lanphere Auto Group, Comcast Xfinity, Heirloom Roses and Fastsigns.

Style at the Street

For those who don’t make it to the Block Party but still want a high-class Street of Dreams experience, the second annual Style at the Street fashion show event on August 11 is sure to be a draw.

Visitors at this event need only their $17 Street of Dreams ticket for entry, although an additional $10 donation at the door adds drink tickets and access to a VIP area with style tips, makeup demonstrations, wine tasting, dessert and chocolate sampling and a view of the runway. The activities run from 6-9 p.m.

“Street of Dreams is already a well-known event,” Loveday says. “This is just kind of that next step up. You get to see all of these incredible homes and meet a great group of vendors and partners in the fashion and style industry.”

The opening-night event usually draws around 1,300 people each year.Portland Monthly Style Editor Eden Dawn, LifeSTYLest founder and creative director Brandon Gaston and Ann Akre and Lea Turner of Portland Fashion and Style Awards are putting together a variety of fashion shows for the evening.

The event is a fundraiser for the Home Builders Association’s Professional Women in Building Council scholarship. The money raised will support someone who is currently working in the industry. Last year, about 200 people attended the event, and Loveday says organizers expect 300-400 people this year.

Visitors can enjoy a Street of Dreams tour and then check out booths from local spas and stylists. The event will include freebies from the salon and spa vendors on site, chocolate and dessert samples, coupons, makeup demonstrations, and fashion and home design tips. The first 100 guests through the gate will receive a custom cosmetic bag full of free samples and products.

The event is sponsored by Cornerstone Construction Services and Bob Lanphere’s Beaverton Infiniti and Beaverton Honda.

Loveday says many of the event’s vendors will be local, as a nod to the partnership that the Home Builders Association has formed this year with the city and its business community.

“It just makes sense to continue that relationship with all the different companies that are based out of Lake Oswego,” she says. “We’re trying to keep it local, keep it in the heart of Lake Oswego.”
