Store will leave the Wizer Block and set up shop in the former A Avenue home of World Class Wines

Wizer’s Fine Wines is moving from the Wizer Block to the space in downtown Lake Oswego recently vacated by World Class Wines.

Kim Wizer says she’s projecting an August opening for the new shop at 269 A Ave., and that the store will participate in the Lake Oswego Wine Walk in October. An application to sell alcohol at the new digs was filed with the Oregon Liquor Control Commission on July 8.

“We wanted to stay in the downtown core and were attracted to the street exposure of the new location — exposure that we struggled with in the current shopping center,” Wizer said. “(This location) was available, has worked as retail space in the past, and now we look forward to putting our ideas together in creating our own sales layout for the building.”

James Vincent and Thomas Reider will remain with the store; both were listed as co-managers with Wizer on the OLCC application.

“Our wine selection and focus will not fundamentally change,” Wizer said. “We will continue to feature our large Oregon selection, which was recently called one of the two best Oregon collections in the state by Oregon Wine Press.”

Other offerings will include wines from Washington, California, Rhone, Australia, Alsace, Burgundy, Bordeaux, Spain and Portugal, Wizer said.

The shop’s cellar list is always kept current, she said, and is available online at

“We may not be able to display everything,” Wizer said, “but it will be available.”

Wizer said the new location will continue to have free wine tastings every Saturday from 11 a.m.-5 p.m., but will not sell beer. A moving sale is currently underway in the shop’s Wizer Block location, with 25 percent off most beers and some red-tagged wines.

Meanwhile, World Class Wines is open for business at 149 A Ave., just down the street from its former location. The shop, which features a wine bar that’s open six nights a week, moved to the new space in March. For more information, go to
