Lake Oswego's Sunny Freeman to raise funds for cancer research
Lake Oswego real estate agent Sunny Freeman is one of 14 candidates who will compete for the title of Man and Woman of the Year in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's annual fundraising contest.
Freeman, an agent with Windermere Realty Group and Sunny Freeman Homes, joins a diverse group of business and community leaders who were nominated by their peers to represent their industry in the contest. The list of candidates was announced last week in Portland.
The fundraising competition begins March 4 and runs for 10 weeks, culminating in a Grand Finale celebration on May 12. Each dollar the candidates raise will count as one vote, with the winner earning bragging rights and the title of Man or Woman of the Year. But the real winner will be the LLS, which uses all of the money raised to fund blood cancer research, education and patient services.
Last year, seven local candidates — including Lake Oswego bake shop owner Kyra Bussanich — raised more than $400,000 in 10 weeks; nationally, the contest generated more than $46 million.
In addition to Freeman, this year's candidates include: Blake Sakamoto, Nu Wavers, Portland; Amy Nasset, Oregon Oncology Specialists, Salem; Ashley Miles, REPIXS, Happy Valley; Dr. Cynthia Viola Harris, Hatch Events, Portland; Dan Snyder, MolecularMD, Portland; Julie La Pierre Dent, Aliat, Portland; Kay Dee Cole, Clarity Wealth Development, Corvallis; Kevin Kirkpatrick, MassMutual, Portland; Kirsten Leonard, Portland; Marlin Bernabe, Move That Body and Club Sport Oregon, Tualatin; Milissa Ormiston, First American Exchange Company, Vancouver; Roberto Flores, HUB International, Portland; and Roger Devine, Northworld, Portland.
