Lake Oswego School District to consider charter recovery high school
Lake Oswego School District officials will hold a public hearing next week to gather input on a proposal to establish a charter high school dedicated to supporting teens in recovery from drug and alcohol abuse or dependency.
If approved, the proposal by the Oregon Recovery High School Initiative (ORHSI) would create the Hope Academy Charter School on the Marylhurst University.campus. The charter school would operate as an independent nonprofit and apply for status as an official recovery high school, meeting all membership criteria for the national Association of Recovery Schools (ARS).
The school would focus on creating a community of diversity, compassion and mutual respect for students in grades 9-12, the district says, with a planned opening in August 2019.
Residents of the Lake Oswego School District and employees of the district who have a stake in School Board decisions are invited to comment on the proposal at a board meeting scheduled for 5:45 p.m. Monday, May 7, in the district's administration building (2455 Country Club Road, Lake Oswego).
