PLASTIC BAG FORUM (SEPT. 6): Are plastic bags in Lake Oswego's future? Join representatives from the Northwest Grocery Association, Surfrider Foundation, Republic Services and Pioneer Recycling from 6-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 6, for a panel discussion and public forum on options for a plastic carryout bag ordinance in Lake Oswego. City staff, who have been directed by the City Council to investigate options for a plastic bag ordinance, will join the panelists to answer questions from the public. The forum will be held in the council chambers at City Hall (380 A Ave.).
BARKS & BREWS (SEPT. 6): Celebrate the opening of the city's new off-leash dog park in West Waluga Park (15775 Waluga Drive) from 4:30-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 6. Four-legged visitors can romp around the park and participate in a costume contest; there will be refreshments for all ages, including local craft beer for anyone age 21 or over (bring a valid driver's license or ID). FARMERS MARKET (SEPT. 8): The Lake Oswego Farmers Market returns to Millennium Plaza Park (200 First St.) on Saturday, with more than 80 vendors offering fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, cheeses, baked goods, hot foods, artisan products and nursery items. Hours are 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
PLANNING COMMISSION (SEPT. 10): The Planning Commission meeting scheduled for Monday has been canceled. The next meeting will be held on Sept. 24.
CONTEMPORARY ISSUES BOOK GROUP (SEPT. 10): Readers are invited to gather at the Lake Oswego Public Library (706 Fourth St.) from 7-8:30 p.m. Monday to talk about "Fascism: A Warning" by Madeleine K. Albright, this month's selection for the Contemporary Issues Book Club. The group meets once a month (except in July and August) to discuss titles related to contemporary issues that "help us understand and respond to today's new world." 10TH-ANNUAL PHOTO CONTEST: Amateur and professional photographers are invited to enter their best images in the 10-annual City of Lake Oswego photo contest. There are seven categories, with prizes given to first-, second- and third-place winners. All winning photos will be included in a special photo exhibit throughout the following year, as well as on the City's website, in its HelloLO publications and in The Review.
