Son of Lake Oswego restaurateurs dies in crash
Gabriel Spaccarelli, 44, the son of Riccardo's Ristorante owners Riccardo and Georgette Spaccerelli, died Sunday afternoon when he lost control of his motorcycle on Highway 218 near Antelope and crashed in an adjacent field.
Spaccarelli sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Fossil Fire Department and ODOT.
Spaccarelli and his siblings — sister Maria and older brother Nathan — grew up working in their parents' Italian restaurant, which opened its doors in Lake Oswego in1980 and has remained a culinary icon in the Lake Grove neighborhood ever since.
During a trip to Italy in 1986, the family toured the illy factory and the brothers developed a passion for Italian coffee. In 1996, Nathan and his wife Kathrin launched Sapori Fine Flavors and became the exclusive illy coffee providers in the Portland area. Gabriel Spaccarelli is listed as the company's quality specialist on its website.
On Thursday, the family released details of a funeral service and celebration of life, which are both open to the public:
-- The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22, at Saint Clare Parish, 8535 S.W. 19th Ave., Portland.
-- A Celebration of Life reception will be held on Sunday, Sept. 23. Guests are invited to come and go anytime between 1-4 p.m. at Riccardo's Ristorante, 16035 S.W. Boones Ferry Road, Lake Oswego.
The Spaccarelli family has set up a GoFundMe account to help cover "the mountain of funeral, transportation, medical bills, etc., that are piling up on his wife, April." To donate, go to www.gofundme.com/gabriel-spaccarelli-memorial-fund.
