Kruse Way Rotary Club to raise funds for charities with a 'Walk Through Strawberry Fields'

SUBMITTED PHOTO - Expect comedy, onstage antics and audience participation when The WannaBeatles perform Oct. 3 at the Rotary Sounds Concert in Lake Oswego. The Beatles so famously sang that "money can't buy you love," but Grammy-nominated Beatles tribute band The WannaBeatles are encouraging locals to attend a special night of music benefitting important charities.

Kruse Way Rotary Club will host its 14th-annual Rotary Sounds Concert on Wednesday, Oct. 3, at the Lakewood Center for the Arts to help children's causes.

This year's event — titled "Walk Through Strawberry Fields" — features The WannaBeatles from Nashville, Tenn. The band includes four talented performers who use their multi-instrumental skills to recreate all eras of The Beatles' song catalog.

"We go where no Beatles band has gone before. We will be playing Beatles classics as well as other music from the '60s, including a fun medley from 1967's Summer of Love," said Dennis Scott, who plays guitar and sings in the band. "There will be comedy, onstage antics and audience participation. It's where FAB meets FUN."

And this band always has fun. The WannaBeatles have performed with Wynonna Judd, Phil Keaggy, Jonny Lang, Ken Mansfield, Beegie Adair, The Fisk Jubilee Singers and Black Diamond.

"The last time The WannaBeatles traveled this far west was to attend the Grammy Awards, where we were nominated in the spoken word category. We are so looking forward to our first time performing in Oregon. It's going to be a blast," Scott said. "We feel so blessed to be doing what we love to do. The least we can do is give back and help spread The Beatles' message of Love and Peace."

This year's event will benefit several charities that help children — Candlelighters, helping children with cancer; Patrick's Children, a Ugandan charity providing clean water, education and food supplies to children; scholarships for qualifying students; and projects supporting Portland area disadvantaged homeless youth.

The evening starts at 5:30 p.m. with appetizers, a wine reception and silent auction. A special feature this year includes the sale of decorated Art Bags — patrons will be surprised what's inside, Rotary organizers said. At 7 p.m., the theater will be transformed into Beatle mania.

"The WannaBeatles are talented, enthusiastic and fun," said Kruse Way Rotary Club member Art Scevola. "This will be talked about for a long time."
