HOT BOOKS FOR COLD DAYS (NOV. 8): Build your holiday gift list for all of the readers in your life at a fast-paced program of mini book reviews presented by librarian Chris Myers at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Lake Oswego Public Library (706 Fourth St.). One-to-two-minute reviews will cover fiction, nonfiction, children's and young-adult selections. The event is free.

HONORING VETERANS (NOV. 11): Lake Oswego will pay tribute to military veterans with two events scheduled for Sunday: Members of the Special Operations Forces from all branches of the military are among the special guests expected at noon for a salute to veterans at City Hall (380 A Ave.); a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Lake Oswego Veterans and First Responders Memorial will highlight a gathering at Foothills Park (199 Foothills Drive) at 1 p.m.. Also on tap: a flyover by the West Coast Ravens, a presentation of colors by the Lake Oswego Police Honor Guard, a display of military vehicles and more,

FREEPONS PARK (NOV. 11): Join the Friends of Hallinan Heights from 1-3 p.m. Sunday as they plant sword ferns in Freepons Park. CITY OFFICES CLOSED (NOV. 12): All City offices, including the library and Adult Community Center, will be closed Monday in observance of Veterans Day. Exceptions: The Municipal Golf Course will be open from 9 a.m.-6 p.m., and the tennis center will be open from 6 a.m.-10 p.m.

BIKE PARK AND TRAILS (NOV. 13 AND NOV. 15): Lake Oswego's Parks & Recreation Department will hold two public meetings to present a preliminary concept plan for proposed multi-use trails and a bike park on the Luscher Farm property. The first Open House is scheduled from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 13, at Fleet Feet (385 First St., Suite 123, in Lake View Village); the second is planned from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15, at Lakeside Bicycles (428 N. State St.).

PINTS FROM THE PAST (NOV. 13): Award winning videographer/historian Darrell Jabin will talk about the unique architecture, history and culture of Oregon theaters, opera houses, vaudeville stages and movie palaces in a special Pints from the Past presentation from 7-8 p.m. Thursday at the Lake Theater and Cafe (106 N. State St.). The program is offered by the Lake Oswego Public Library in cooperation with the Clackamas County Historical Society. Admission is free and no ticket is required. PERFORMING ARTS (NOV. 14): Gerardo Calderon will blend Latin America folk rhythms, jazz and contemporary rhythms from the Americas from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday in a performance of his original compositions called "Sharing our Traditions — Compartiendo nuestras tradiciones." The interactive program is free and open to all ages.

PARKS FRIENDS GROUPS (NOV. 14): Lake Oswego's Parks Friends Groups will hold their quarterly forum from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday at the Operations and Maintenance Center (17601 Pilkington Road). On the agenda: fall and winter work parties and the Stewardship truck and trailer schedule. There will also be time for Q&A with Parks staff.
