Fowler named new LO Chamber president
If you're a regular at Blue Moon Coffee, the new Lake Oswego Chamber of Commerce president will be a familiar face.
Julia Fowler, the owner of Blue Moon since 2011, officially took over as president July 1. She succeeded Bob Martinsson, whose term ended June 30. Fowler will serve as president through June 30, 2020.
"The Chamber is the voice of business for Lake Oswego," Fowler said in a press release. "The Chamber board has gone through more planning recently than in past years. Our board knows that taking a long view for the future of Lake Oswego is critical to help local business work with the City, school district and community leaders to be the engine of collaboration that brings every part of the community together."
When Fowler purchased Blue Moon, it was still located at the Mercantile property. She moved the business to downtown Lake Oswego two years ago, and the Mercantile property is now being redeveloped.
"We know that businesses in Lake Grove will need more visibility in the coming months as they face nearly two years of construction," Fowler said. "Part of our mandate is to make it easy for people to connect with all that Lake Oswego has to offer. The Chamber will be providing more business education and more networking opportunities to keep businesses informed about what impacts the local economy."
Fowler is also excited to continue the Lake Oswego Leadership program, which will welcome its 34th class this fall.
"This program not only helps local businesses understand what's going on in the city, it combines the talents of the City and school district (the area's largest employer) to build on what is going well in the city and what can be done better," Fowler said.
