The facility located in Lake Oswego temporarily closed after June 12 for about two weeks

More than 20 people associated with Lake Grove KinderCare, a daycare and preschool facility in Lake Oswego, have tested positive for COVID-19.

KinderCare temporarily closed at the end of the day Friday, June 12, after someone at the facility started exhibiting signs of the novel coronavirus.

"The facility closed at the first sign of illness at the facility before test results were back," said Clackamas County Public Health Assistant Director Julie Aalbers in an email to the Review. "The case count was zero when they were last open and making the decision to close."

According to the Oregon Health Authority's weekly report released July 1, there were 28 cases reported.

According to Clackamas County spokesperson Kimberly Dinwiddie this number includes people at the facility and family members.

Dinwiddie and Aalbers said they were unable to provide an exact breakdown of cases.

"The health and safety of our children, families and staff is always our top priority," said Emily Snyder, associate communications manager at KinderCare Education LLC. "In response to the Covid-19 crisis, we've developed enhanced health and safety measures in partnership with the CDC and a panel of medical experts to ensure our centers remain as clean and safe as possible."

Since staff members learned of the positive test results in Lake Grove, they decided to close for two weeks to allow for additional staff to be tested, a professional deep cleaning and retraining on the safety measures and protocols put in place amid the pandemic.

"We're also taking the extra step of retraining all of our Oregon center staff to ensure we're delivering against the highest standards possible," Snyder said. "We're looking forward to welcoming families back to our center soon."

Snyder from KinderCare had not responded to a request for information about the patients as of Tuesday afternoon.
