Youth will lead Black Lives Matter March at Westlake Park in Lake Oswego July 4.

The fight for equity and basic human rights for people of color is far from over.

Though this Fourth of July won't look the same as prior holidays — large gatherings are still banned and celebratory events have been canceled across the state — Community Creating Unity PDX is promoting a local march in Lake Oswego July 4.

The organization is youth-led and works to build unity and create a safe space to amplify traditionally marginalized voices of Black, Indigenous and people of color, and those who identify as LGBTQ, by promoting community building events.

The family-friendly protest against police brutality and racism will be at Westlake Park at 3 p.m. The organization encourages people to dress in black, wear masks and practice physical distancing.

You count on us to stay informed and we depend on you to fund our efforts. Quality local journalism takes time and money. Please support us to protect the future of community journalism.
