Business opened Nov. 11 for grab-and-go options Monday through Saturday on State Street.

Located at 141 N State St., where the former Blue Star Cafe was housed, is Honey Baked Ham's temporary express location, which opened Nov. 11.

"Honey Baked is a company and a business that brings families together," said Paul White, who helps his wife and owner, Helen, run the shop. "I think it's good for both our area and this time because it is a food and it's something that brings families together at a table and a chance for them to share fellowship and show appreciation for the things we all have."

The Whites, who own all the Honey Baked Ham franchises in Oregon and Southwest Washington, decided to set up shop in Lake Oswego after they moved from their Johns Landing building, which was being remodeled. The Whites have lived in Lake Oswego for the past 12 years and thought it would be a great community for Honey Baked Ham.

"I think it's a wonderful place to live," Paul White said. "We love the community."

And because many of their Johns Landing customers also live in the general area, they thought the Lake Oswego location would be a good fit.

Paul White said they had looked at purchasing an empty storefront in the center prior to moving into their current location, but were hesitant to start construction and a build-out in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. The current site allows for outside service, which Paul White said provides a safe environment in today's climate.

"People don't have to come in, they can do outside pickup," he said.

Not only does the company offer ham, but it offers turkey breast as well. Paul White said it goes through the same smoking, time and cure process that the ham does and also includes the honey glaze. He said another highlight is that they now offer five-pound hams, instead of the traditional eight, nine or 10 pounds.

People can order ahead of time on the website and select the Lake Oswego location for pickup. The express location doesn't allow for reservations, but other main stores can reserve and pre-package items. People can also order Honey Baked Ham for delivery via Grubhub, Postmates and Uber Eats.
