The Lake Oswego Public Library handed out 800 free copies of "Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents" by Isabel Wilkerson for the 15th year of the LO Reads program.

This was made possible with help from Friends of the Lake Oswego Public Library.

The book dives into the caste system, primarily focusing on India, Germany and America.

The idea behind LO Reads is for many community members to read the same book and then discuss its message together. There will be a number of free programs over the next couple months which will be held virtually due to ongoing precautions related to the pandemic.PMG PHOTO: JONATHAN HOUSE - Stacked books are ready to be handed out at the LO Reads book giveaway on Thursday, Jan. 7.PMG PHOTO: JONATHAN HOUSE - Volunteer Linda Brown hands off a copy of 'Caste' during the LO Reads book giveaway on Thursday, Jan. 7.PMG PHOTO: JONATHAN HOUSE - Volunteer Meg James hands off a copy of 'Caste' during the LO Reads book giveaway on Thursday, Jan. 7.
