A nod to Lake Oswego veterans
Foothills Park filled with people this Memorial Day as the city paid tribute to veterans.
The Lake Oswego Veterans Memorial hosted a ceremony at 11 a.m. Monday, May 31, at Foothills Park. The event included guest speaker Major Grant McGregor — who is still active duty — a flyover by the West Coast Ravens, an appearance by the Lake Oswego Police Honor Guard and a presentation of wreaths at the wall for fallen loved ones.
The construction of the new sanctuary garden in memory of John Hanan II was completed and revealed to attendees. Hanan was heavily involved with the Lake Oswego community — particularly with the Lake Oswego Chamber of Commerce and the Lake Oswego Veterans Memorial — and died last summer after a two-year battle with cancer. In the center of the garden is a 1,200-pound rock surrounded by plantings, two benches and a plaque in memory of Hanan.
