After winning their PNW semi Friday, Lakers guarantee their spot in the Series.

Lake Oswego, which beat Montana 12-1 in the semifinals of the Pacific Northwest Regional tournament at Al Houghton Stadium in San Bernardino, California, on Friday, Aug. 13, have secured a berth in the 2021 Little League World Series.

With its Friday win, Lake Oswego advances to the PNW tournament championship at 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, against Sammamish Little League — the Washington state champion and a team that beat LO 5-0 in their regional opener. Further, the Lakers have already guaranteed themselves a berth in the Little League World Series, set for Aug. 19-28 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

Lake Oswego, which last played in the series back in 2007 — before any of this year's team members were born — is beyond excited for its chance to play on the world's biggest stage for baseball players ages 11-13. The Lakers are already the District 4 and Oregon state champions.

"It feels great to play in the World Series," said Lake Oswego outfielder Kell VanDehey. "I know not many people get this opportunity so I am super excited to play."

"It feels amazing to know that I'm playing in the (Little League World Series) because it is something every Little Leaguer dreams (about) … to play in Williamsport," said LO third baseman Beckett Heher.

If Lake Oswego beats Washington to win the PNW regional, it will open World Series play against Texas at 7 p.m. Friday Aug. 20; If the Lakers finish second in the PNW regional, they will open World Series play against the winner of the Mid-Atlantic Regional at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20.

Regardless of where they finish in the regional tournament, however, the Lakers are grateful for the opportunity of a lifetime at the World Series.

"It feels great to be one of very few kids to have this opportunity," added Lake Oswego's Ryan Warhank.
