Commissioner Paul Savas appointed to toll advisory committee
Commissioner Paul Savas was named as the primary advisor of the toll committee in a county commission meeting on July 12. Commissioner Mark Shull was appointed as the alternate or second advisor.
In March of 2022, Savas was one of four representatives who voted against the investment plan that allowed the Oregon Department of Transportation to work on environmental research in regards to tolling I-205.
The central protest against the project is the decision to toll I-205 without a vote from the community rather than just elected representatives.
Protesters of the toll have been attending Oregon Department of Transportation events to display their indignation, such as the Oregon City town hall and West Linn town hall on June 28 and June 30, respectively.
The protesting groups are garnering signatures on a petition to force a vote of citizens before going further with the tolling plan. This petition would add an amendment to article IX of the Constitution of the state of Oregon stating that tolls cannot be placed without a regional vote.
A protest is expected to be held again at the upcoming I-205 Improvements Project Groundbreaking celebration taking place July 22 to kick off the project.
