The city of Lake Oswego's Development Review Commission reached approvals related to the development of Rassekh Park and the conversion of the 18-hole Lake Oswego Public Golf Course into a nine-hole course during a meeting Monday, Aug. 1.

The Rassekh project, at 18001 Stafford Road, will feature the development of an athletic field, skate park, 65-space parking lot, maintenance building, picnic shelter, restroom, dugout and play area, and requires the removal of 28 trees.

The golf course project — at a 38.51-acre site — will include the construction of a new maintenance building with a parking lot and an extension of the existing driving range, while also making room for the new Lake Oswego Recreation and Aquatic Center. It also requires the removal of 154 trees. Three trees were denied for removal.

Neighbors in the Palisades and Stafford areas have voiced concerns that these projects will exacerbate traffic, particularly at the Stafford Road and Rosemont Road roundabout, and cause parking issues. The city's most recent traffic study, based on traffic volumes since schools reopened, indicated that the nearby roads would continue to function following the developments.

DRC commissioner John Dewes said at the meeting that the various development proposals in the area may have led to some confusion and that they should have been considered in tandem.

"It feels like there could have been some way to create a little bit more of … a wholeness between the three projects," he said at the meeting.
