Health care workers start skin rejuvenation shop in Lake Oswego
Two nurses and a physician have opened a practice of their own in Lake Oswego with a focus on skin treatment and rejuvenation.
Rebecca Duby, Megan Stitch and Nicole Barber, colleagues at Willamette Falls Medical Center, opened Meraki Medical Aesthetics on Second Street in late October.
Some of the services they offer include intense-pulse light skin rejuvenation treatment, dermal fillers, Botox, microneedling and laser hair removal.
Duby said one goal is to help clients feel that "wow factor" when they look at their skin.
"I think (with) skin care … that's the first impression people have of you. It plays a huge role in how you interact with the world and how you're perceived and your place in the world, whether you like it or not," Duby said.
She added: "It builds confidence. We see that in those who we treat."
Duby said that for the three owners, opening up a skin care treatment facility was a nice counterpoint to the stressful jobs of working in a hospital. Duby said she had previous experience treating facial injuries like lacerations, but that she and her fellow owners underwent myriad trainings — including sessions through the American Board of Aesthetic Medicine — to get up to speed.
"It's a very stark transition and a more controlled and calm environment. It's pretty refreshing and uplifting. It's a nice positive environment to be in," she said.
Duby added that, while many similar establishments also offer injectables and hair and tattoo removal, Meraki specializes in skin resurfacing treatment including using a fractional CO2 laser device and a microneedling radio frequency device. She said the microneedling machine creates more precise results and can stimulate collagen.
"It provides really great results, for fine lines and wrinkles, discoloration, improved tone and texture. It's overall a really nice facial treatment," she said, adding that Meraki does essentially everything short of plastic surgery when it comes to skin treatment. Further, Duby said, the focus of the company revolves around ensuring client safety and a positive customer experience.
Duby said the three owners eyed Lake Oswego for its attractive amenities and natural beauty and are working to get to know the community more and collaborate with other local businesses. For more information, visit https://www.merakimedaesthetics.com/.
"We're excited to be here and finally be open to Lake Oswego and the surrounding community," Duby said.
