Dale Cleland's impact felt far and wide
I grew up in Oswego and attended its public schools from kindergarten through high school. In fifth grade, we were given a choice of instruments to rent for a few months. I wanted drums, but my parents said they were too loud. Purely out of spite, I picked the trumpet.
Dale Cleland was my first band teacher and a huge influence on what became my now 50 years as a musician. I had other teachers at Waluga and Lakeridge, but Dale was always there as a mentor, pushing me to try harder parts, solos I was hesitant to try (with his wife Rosemary accompanying me), private lessons, musicals and regional solo contests. I ended up with a music performance degree in college, and went on to have several careers.
The last 15 years have been exclusively as a professional trumpet player doing musicals, opera, ballet, symphony and church concerts. Dale always made music fun, interesting, rewarding and challenging.
I will always be grateful to him for making music an important part of my life, even when it wasn't my primary career.

Experience, commitment and advocacy
It is with great respect and hope that I write this letter in support of John Wallin.
John has shown as a father with two children now in college, and one who recently entered high school, that he has the pulse of the needs of the student body. John has supported all children and families in the district with a steadfast commitment to advancing curriculum, dual language learning, diversity and equity, school safety, achieving exemplary test scores and increased graduation rates. By and large, John has shown that he supports the interests, needs, hopes and dreams of every student and every family in the district with not just broad ideas but tangible and well-executed initiatives.
John is a stellar example of what experience, commitment and advocacy are within Lake Oswego. He is the leader we need to advance and maintain our strength as a school district.
Calabria's skills, experience fit well on school board
As a parent of two Lake Oswego School District graduates, and former president of Lake Oswego Schools Foundation, I know what a treasure our school district is. This treasure must be nourished, protected and encouraged to keep growing. Financial prudence is important as are fresh ideas and ethical, transparent leadership.
Kelly Calabria has hands-on experience as a mom of students in fourth and sixth grades. Her entrepreneurial spirit and skill as a small business owner will allow her to listen well and make wise and fiscally prudent decisions as she supports and welcomes our new superintendent.
Please join me and vote Kelly Calabria for LO School Board.
Calabria a worthy partner in business, for the district
The word partner has many different meanings: Tennis partner? Bridge partner? Golf partner? Spouse? Business partner? The last term is the one I have been privileged to use for the past 12 years, when referring to Kelly Calabria. I know her well.
Being the respectful person she is, Kelly came to me several months ago and asked if I would support her decision to run for school board. She knew it could require some sacrifice on my part, as she dedicated extra hours to both campaigning and hopefully serving.
For me, saying "YES" was easy. Having had the privilege of sending all three of my children through the LO Schools, knowing the direct relationship of school metrics to our real estate values and, most importantly, knowing Kelly's transparency, dedication, intelligence, creativity and passion to serve, her addition to our LO School Board would be an asset to the 7,000 kids in our schools, as well as their families. Join me in saying YES —vote Kelly Calabria for LO School Board.
Calabria is the best choice for board
When moving to Oregon almost 20 years ago, Lake Oswego was our clear choice because of the strong school system. All three of our children graduated from Lake Oswego schools and have been successful in college and their careers.
Now, our grandchildren will soon be enrolled in the LO school system. The landscape is different, but the basics remain the same. Kelly Calabria is familiar with our elementary schools, middle schools and will soon be a mom of high school students. As a small business owner and realtor, she is energetic, involved, organized and knows the importance of strong schools for our entire community. She listens well and wants to do what is best for all students.
Please join me in voting Kelly Calabria for LO School Board.
Calabria has what it takes for board spot
Like so many residents, we moved to Lake Oswego for the exceptional public schools. Our children received a great education and are now successful and responsible adults. Although our schools are still excellent, we are now faced with financial challenges. The PERS crisis, state funding shortages and critical costly repairs of aging schools are all on the horizon. We need a school board that knows how to deal with these issues.
Innovative problem solving, consistent financial discipline and transparent process will be critical for continued success of our district. As the owner of Kelly's Jelly, a past city budget committee member, longtime LO realtor, and hands on parent and community volunteer, Kelly Calabria has what it takes to contribute fresh ideas to our schools.

Successful mulching work party in Springbrook Park
Thank you to the 20 neighbors who mulched the 250 fern plants this Saturday that were planted in February. This will help the ferns survive as the weather warms. Thanks to members of SOLVE for your efforts. Thank you Ginny Haines for managing the project.

Proven track record of dedication and student support
It is with great pleasure that I write in support of John Wallin for reelection to the Lake Oswego school board. John has shown throughout his tenure a lens for meeting student needs and a keen ability to ensure our schools are the core of what makes Lake Oswego such an amazing place to live. John has worked tirelessly to advocate for increased test scores, reduction in student anxiety, increased graduation rates and above all making sure every student regardless of adversities can achieve exemplary outcomes.
To me, John's name is synonymous with integrity. He has shown over and over again that he conducts himself in a manner reflective of the vast responsibility and trust we have given him as a sitting school board member. John has shown that he has the knowledge and ability to responsibly manage the bond, welcome our new superintendent and holistically understand the vitality of renewing the levy option.
Please vote to keep stability, integrity and dedication on our school board. Vote for John Wallin.
