Now is not time to let our guards down
Fellow Oregonians! A quick story … I have bad hay fever. When I take the medicine properly my hay fever gets much better. Then I say to myself, "I'm feeling much better, I think I'll stop taking all that medicine." Guess what happens? I start feeling miserable again!
We are so close now to hitting the COVID 19 plateau. Please don't let up now because our numbers, in Oregon, look so good. Just a little longer and we can safely begin some normalcy. I know everyone is going stir crazy, count me in that group. And I miss our friends terribly! Let's not waste the sacrifices we have made by "stopping the medicine" too soon. We are Oregonians! We have what it takes to overcome! Please keep up the good work and keep "taking the medicine."
Props to LO Ace Hardware
Our Lake Oswego Ace Hardware Store is the best.
The owners/managers figured out right away how to keep the employees safe, busy and employed and the customers safe, supplied and satisfied. I've always been a frequent customer but now my loyalty is unshakeable.
If you haven't been there, check it out. The good companies will all survive this pandemic.
Vote Gamba for Congress
We have learned that elections have consequences and it's important that we vote. I'm grateful that Oregon has vote-by-mail for all registered voters. Please be sure you are registered and please vote.
I'm also writing to encourage all of us to elect Mayor Mark Gamba to be our representative for the 5th Congressional district.
As mayor of Milwaukie for eight years, Mark has demonstrated his commitment to problem solving and to civic engagement. He has the political will, the leadership ability and the thoughtfulness to address our current problems of income inequality, inadequate healthcare, climate disruption and the lack of affordable housing.
We can count on him to show up, meet with citizens, listen and to answer questions honestly. We need a skilled leader who has the will to make effective changes at the national level.
These are challenging times but we can vote for effective leadership. I am grateful that Mark Gamba has stepped forward at this time of crisis.
Please stay safe. We are all in this together. We need to take important steps now for our survival and for the care of future generations.
Small businesses need help
I've lived in Lake Oswego for 27 years. I work in a long established Lake Oswego hair salon called Salon LaVonne. We've serviced Lake Oswego residents since 1995. On March 23rd by order of Governor Brown and COVID-19, 13 female independent contractors were stopped from earning ANY money for their families. We've received no money from EIDL, PPP, stimulus, unemployment or LO COVID grant program. Now we face costly measures to get our salon ready to continue all "measures" to keep us and our clients safe. Although desperate for the important services we provide, (for both personal and mental well being), we need our clients to feel safe at all costs and actually sit in our chairs. These costs have no end in sight. I'm asking my community to please step in and help us get the salon ready with deep salon sanitation, sprayers, plexiglass, masks, sanitizers, capes, wipes, gowns, Etc. These things have become very difficult to find and we need them. I speak for all small businesses who actually touch people. We are all desperate to work. AND, our community needs us.
You count on us to stay informed and we depend on you to fund our efforts. Quality local journalism takes time and money. Please support us to protect the future of community journalism.
