Successful Plantings in Springbrook Park Saturday Morning Nov. 14
Thanks to the friends and families who planted hundreds of Vine Maples in Springbrook Park this morning. The wet soil made it easy to dig. Although wet, it did not rain. Great experience of our volunteers. Thanks to Anne and Eric Lider for managing the project.
Anonymous letters help no one
Another anonymous letter. This one asserts that support of Black Lives Matter is the equivalent of supporting racism, violence and a socialist state. The authors obviously are unacquainted with the BLM movement and apparently are accepting second-hand information, without even looking up the BLM mission or talking to anyone who is involved in the movement. Tens of thousands of people have been protesting violence against Black people for the past few months, and there has been a minority who have engaged in destructive behavior, the majority of whom are not associated with the movement. I remember how Dr Martin Luther King Jr was described as an agitator, a criminal and a communist. Now people see him as a hero — which he was.
It is unfortunate that people who write anonymous and threatening letters do not have the desire to have a dialogue with those who have different views. There are safe spaces for these conversations, including several houses of worship as well as community groups such as Respond to Racism. Many of us who support the movement are willing to talk with you. But please do not write anonymous letters to your neighbors.

Open Letter to Commissioner Tootie Smith
I am deeply disappointed in your attitude toward Thanksgiving gatherings. You display deep ignorance of how COVID-19 is spread. You entirely ignore the fact that seemingly healthy people can infect others. There is unanimity among doctors and epidemiologists that "family and friends" gatherings are now the main cause of virus spread. Your guests cannot possibly have a safe gathering; indoors, unmasked while eating and drinking, in close proximity, sharing food, utensils, and air. They are not safe. I really don't care if your guests get sick and die, but I do care if they infect innocent others. No, we don't need the government to micromanage our lives, what we do need is for people like you, i.e. leaders, to act responsibly, face facts, and set a good example. There is nothing conservative about acting recklessly. A real conservative would accept that Holiday gatherings can wait a year. Be the conservative you claim to be.
