High school football rolls into Week 13
"You want football?"
"I think I'm entitled to football."
"You want football?"
"I want football!"
"You can't handle the football!"
We'll find out who can handle the football today, with Class 6A state semifinals set at noon and 5 p.m. at Hillsboro Stadium. In the first game, at noon, second-ranked and unbeaten Mt. Last year, the Tigard High School football team reached the semifinal round of the Class 6A state playoffs.
But the Tigers came up one game short of making it to the state championship game, as they fell 35-34 in double overtime to Central Catholic in the semifinal round.
Last year, Clackamas also reached the semifinal round of the Class 6A state playoffs.
But the Cavaliers also came up one win short of getting to the Class 6A title tilt, as they lost 41-20 to eventual state champion West Linn.
Well, one year later, Tigard and Clackamas again have earned spots in the semifinal round of the state playoffs.
But, this year, either the Tigers or the Cavaliers are going to advance to the Class 6A state championship contest. That's because they're going to face off against each other in a state semifinal game, set to be played Friday, starting at noon, at Hillsboro Stadium.
The Lake Oswego football team will play in the Class 6A state semifinals Friday for the first time since 2012.
For the top-ranked Lakers' opponent, No. 5 South Medford, an appearance in the semifinals is an even rarer thing — it's the Panthers' first-ever trip this far in the state playoffs.
The contest is scheduled for 5 p.m. Friday at Hillsboro Stadium.
But don't get the idea that South Medford is out of its depth. The Panthers roll into the contest with an 11-1 record, carrying an 10-game winning streak and coming off a 28-14 upset of No. 4 West Salem in Friday's quarterfinal contest at West Salem High School.
The Three Rivers League co-champion Lakers (11-1 overall), meanwhile, enter the game as winners of nine straight and coming off a 48-17 wipeout of No. 9 Jesuit in their quarterfinal.
