North shuts down South 24-7 to win Les Schwab Bowl
You've heard the phrase "The South will rise again," right?
Well, maybe it will someday, but the North defense made sure it didn't happen on Saturday in the annual Les Schwab Bowl at Hillsboro Stadium.
After allowing the South to score its lone touchdown midway through the first quarter, the North didn't allow anything else the rest of the way to win 24-7 in the annual high school football all-star game featuring Oregon's best graduated seniors from both Class 5A and Class 6A.
Grant's Grant Ewell Jr. was named Most Valuable Player after intercepting a South pass and taking it back 71 yards to score, then catching the ensuing two-point conversion pass to give his team the lead for good at 8-7.
In addition to Ewell's award, Gresham's Levi O'Connell (North) and South Salem's Alex Sanchez (South) were named Linemen of the Game, while Grant's DeMarcus Singleton (North) and South Medford's Jaylin Parnell (South) were named Backs of the Game.
