Lake Oswego wrestlers fall to Tigard, prep for district
It hasn't all been easy pins and cheering crowds for the Lake Oswego wrestling team this year.
The shorthanded Lakers typically give up a handful of forfeits to their dual meet opponents and effectively start each match with a daunting double-digit deficit.
That was the case again in the Lakers' Three Rivers League finale last week, a 54-21 loss at Tigard on Feb. 7.
But the Lakers didn't go home emptyhanded. In the night's seven contested matches, Lake Oswego clearly held its own against Tigard, winning three times and being outscored just 24-15 in those weights.
Winners for the Lakers on Feb. 7 included: Hank Fillmore — he posted a 4-3 decision over Emiliano Jimenez at 132 pounds; Mason Ko — he pinned Nehemiah Demisse at 145; and Lucus Cuyuch — he pinned Kobe McCollan at 160.
Next up for the Lakers and the rest of the league's best is the Three Rivers League district tournament, set for Friday and Saturday at West Linn High School. The tournament opens at 2:30 p.m. Friday, continues at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, then concludes with the Parade of Champions at 6 p.m. Saturday and the championship finals at approximately 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
