Open to boys and girls in grades 6-12, the team will first meet on Wednesday, May 15

It's time to ride.

The new Lake Oswego Composite mountain biking team is now soliciting new members from the Lake Oswego area. The team is open to boys and girls in grades 6-12, and will begin practice in the summer and competition in the fall.

According to organizer Brian Dunn and the Oregon Interscholastic Cycling League, "Our philosophy is to have fun and to develop a strong body, mind, and character through mountain biking."

The OICL's long-term goal is to one day establish cross-country mountain biking as an official high school sport. The league currently has teams from Bend, Camas, Corvallis, Eugene, Klamath Falls, Lake Oswego, Newport, Portland Metro, Rogue, Salem, South Coast, Springwater School, Tualatin Valley and Umpqua Valley.

Prospective members are encouraged to come to the team's first parent/student-athlete meeting, set for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, at Lakeside Bicycles, 428 N. State Street in Lake Oswego.
