Lake Oswego's Gabriel Stewart wins two para-athlete titles at state track
Lake Oswego's Gabriel Stewart was right there.
As Lake Oswego and Lakeridge high schools' best athletes ran their hardest, jumped their farthest, threw their longest and vaulted their highest, Stewart was right there, competing alongside the Lakers and Pacers at the Class 6A state track and field meet at Mt. Hood Community College on May 24-25.
Stewart, a freshman competing as a para-athlete in the 400 meters and 1,500 meters, showed he belonged, too.
Running through the day's showers like everyone else, Stewart stepped up to win the 1,500 on May 25 with a finishing time of 5 minutes, 37.23 seconds. He came back later in the day to set the pace again in the 400, taking first again with a winning mark of 1:07.57.
