Lake Oswego Water Polo teams step up in Southern California
The weather was hot, the competition was hot and Lake Oswego Water Polo Organization's best teams were battled the best in the hotbed of water polo in early August.
Competing in the National Junior Olympics Tournament in Orange County, California, on Aug. 1-4, LOWPO's best teams showed that they could hold their own against the nation's best, with the 12U team finishing eighth in the gold bracket, the 14U team finishing 18th in the bronze bracket and the 16U team finishing with a silver in the bronze bracket.
Some of the highlights from the tournament included: teamwork by the dynamic duo Kane Saur and Henry Saur of the 12U team; a shot at the buzzer from half tank by goalie Brody Burk of the 14U team to gain a 9-8 win for LOWPO; quick shots late in the game by Colin Alexander to bring the 14U team to a shootout; strong center play resulting in quick goals by Torin Ferguson for the 16U team; and incredible blocks by Mitchell Parker during a shootout that led the 18U team to victory.
