Pressnell, Bachman, Redpath, Hill win berths on 2019 TRL all-league first team

PMG PHOTO: MILES VANCE - Lakeridge junior Emily Bachman (right) won a berth on the all-Three Rivers League first team for a second year in a row in 2019, helping the Pacers to a third-place finish in league and into the second round of the Class 6A state playoffs.Whether it was the giants of the Three Rivers League or the giants of Oregon's Class 6A state playoff field, the Lakeridge and Lake Oswego girls soccer teams showed they could compete with the best.

In response, the Pacers and Lakers saw 15 players honored on 2019 Three Rivers League all-star teams, with both teams getting two of their best selected to the all-TRL first team. For Lakeridge, sophomore goalkeeper Abby Pressnell and junior midfielder Emily Bachman won spots on the first team, while Lake Oswego saw freshman midfielder Natalie Redpath and sophomore defender Jayden Hill get first-team honors.

"(Pressnell is) easily one of the top two goalkeepers in the state and she's just a sophomore. There's lots more to come from Abby in the future," said Lakeridge coach Karl Granlund, adding that Bachman "brings an amazing work rate to both games and practices. (She's) a 'competitor' in the true sense of the word."

Pressnell finished her year with 11 shutouts in 16 games (including eight in a row), while Bachman finished 2019 with three goals and four assists. Both are returning first-team all-league selections, with Pressnell winning TRL Player of the Year honors in 2018.

Beyond those two, the Pacers saw six more players honored, including three second-teamers — junior midfielder Bella Yannello (five goals, one assist), senior forward Megan McCormack (seven goals, one assist) and junior defender Keeley Lipp.

"(Yanello has) a high IQ for the game. She knows when to defend and when to get forward out of the midfield," Granlund said, adding that McCormack brought a "tremendous amount of energy (and) made goals happen when they weren't really there," while Lipp "anchored our defense (and) knew when to step into the attack."

Honorable mention picks for Lakeridge included senior defender Sydney Okoneski, junior midfielder Payton Moffenbeier (one goal, three assists) and junior defender Jenna Barouh.

For Lake Oswego, Redpath and Hill helped lead the Lakers to a fourth-place finish in the 2019 TRL race, and later, into the second round of the state playoffs.

"(Redpath) is tactically astute, which allows her to keep (and) maintain possession when we have the ball and break up play when we don't have the ball," said Lake Oswego coach Foday Kabba. "She was critical to the way we want to play."

Regarding Hill's contributions, Kabba said she "is fast, fit and tough, which allows her to get up and down the field with ease. She provided us with great defensive balance and great attacking options with her lung-busting runs on the wing."

In addition, the Lakers saw senior midfielder Peyton Ivey and freshman forward Kaitlyn Sasadeusz named to the all-TRL second team, while LO honorable mention picks included senior forward Taylor Jones, senior midfielder Kate Diedrich and sophomore defender Karoline Shipton.

Tualatin junior forward Cally Togiai was named TRL Player of the Year, while Tualatin's Kale Dwight was named Coach of the Year.
