Lake Oswego's Casey Filkins signs with Stanford football
Just as he had all year, Lake Oswego senior running back Casey Filkins pulled his biggest supporters in close and got ready for another big day.
In this case, however, it wasn't his offensive line that Filkins brought together and the occasion wasn't a football game.
Instead, Filkins brought together family members, football coaches and his girlfriend on Tuesday, Dec. 17, to celebrate signing his National Letter of Intent to continue his education and football career at Stanford University.
The signing ceremony at Lake Oswego High School was another milestone in Filkins' stellar 2019 season.
Prior to his signing, Filkins' senior football season included the following:
• He was recognized as the 2019 Oregon Gatorade Player of the Year on Dec. 6.
• He led the Lakers with 2,500 yards rushing and 37 touchdowns on 315 carries.
• He led Lake Oswego to a second straight Class 6A state championship game appearance, where the Lakers fell to Central Catholic 49-28 on Dec. 7.
• The 2018 Class 6A Offensive Player of the Year and state championship game MVP, Filkins was also selected to play in the All-American Bowl in San Antonio next month.
