Lake Oswego's Casey Filkins wins Prep Football Player of the Year
The trophy case at Casey Filkins' house is getting crowded.
Filkins, a Lake Oswego senior who led his team to a second straight Class 6A state championship game appearance last fall, was named the Prep Football Player of the Year by the Oregon Sports Awards on Tuesday, May 26.
Previously, Filkins was named first-team all-Three Rivers League, TRL Offensive Player of the Year, first-team Class 6A all-state, Class 6A Offensive Player of the Year, Gatorade Oregon Player of the Year and adidas All-American, as well as earning a berth in the All American Bowl.
Filkins finished his year with 2,500 yards rushing and 37 touchdowns on 315 carries.
Along the way, he led the Lakers to a second-place finish in the Three Rivers League, then four straight state playoff wins before dropping a 49-28 decision to Central Catholic in the 6A championship.
The Lakers finished their 2019 season with an 11-2 overall record after winning a state championship at the end of the 2018 season.
Filkins signed to play his college football with Stanford University following the end of his senior year.
