High school football readies for 2021 kickoff on March 5
Are you ready for some football?
Are you ready for some Oregon high school football?
If so, you'll see the sport's 454-day pandemic-imposed lockdown come to an end Friday, March 5. On March 5, high school football returns with 83 games scheduled across the state — from Class 6A on down to six-man football in Class 1A — among them huge matchups including Lake Oswego at Tigard, Jesuit at Central Catholic, Scappoose at Wilsonville and many, many more.
"It is a great relief for the kids to get the greenlight to play," said Lake Oswego coach Steve Coury, whose Lakers play at Tigard High School at 7 p.m. March 5. "It will give them a sense of normalcy that is needed in our world today. They look forward to being together, competing and playing the sport they love."
"We're giving the kids an opportunity to play a game," added Tigard coach John Kemper. "We're not competing for a state title. We're not really realistically competing for a league title. We're just competing to play the game that we all love, to get a little bit of normalcy back from a year that's been so uncommon, and hopefully, one we never see again."
