COURTESY PHOTO - The Lakeridge girls cross country team races away at the start of the Three Rivers League district meet at Oregon City High School on Wednesday, Oct. 27.While the cross country course at Oregon City High School was wet on Wednesday, Oct. 27, it wasn't exactly a lake.

But the two teams from Lake Oswego — Lakeridge and Lake Oswego — took to it like they owned it, with the Pacers winning the Three Rivers League district championship and the Lakers finishing second. The complete team scoring included: 1. Lakeridge 56; 2. Lake Oswego 80; 3. Tigard 83 4. Tualatin 97; 5. Oregon City 107; 6. West Linn 108; 7. St Mary's Academy 108; 8. Canby 242.

"Everyone on the team raced phenomenally today," said Lakeridge senior Ainsley Williams, who finished third overall in the 5-kilometer race with a time of 18 minutes, 57.41 seconds. "Even with an ocean of mud, everyone powered up those hills and finished brilliantly. I'm so incredibly proud of everyone."

"While there weren't many PRs today, I'm still really proud of my team," said Pacer sophomore Breckyn Kornachuk, who took fourth at 19:00.04. "We've been trying to close the gap between all our varsity girls, but even with space between runners, I think we still had a solid day."

Second-place Lake Oswego built its day on the success of sisters Kate and Ana Peters. Kate Peters, a junior, took the TRL individual crown by winning the event with a time of 17:12.36, while Ana Peters, a sophomore, placed second at 18:26.61.

"I'm very excited. We ran really well as a team today," Kate Peters said, noting that the Lakers' state berth was the team's first in 13 years. "(I'm) so excited to be a part of turning the team around (and) we will continue to have lots of success in the future."

Tigard is also headed to state after placing third in the team standings, its efforts led by sophomore Sabine Kim (fifth at 19:18.34) and junior Lillian Herman (sixth at 19:41.73).

Qualifying as an individual was West Linn senior Kate Sousley, who finished seventh overall with a time of 19:55.71.

The Class 6A girls state meet is scheduled for 2:55 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6 at Lane Community College in Eugene.
