Putnam Youth Baseball's Senior American team was undefeated at the state tournament and won the title of 2022 state champions.

Led by coaches Chandler Alba, Marissa Boman and Joe Cram, many of these athletes had played together since elementary school, but they said this year was special.

"These athletes clicked, both in the game and personally, in a way that made them able to encourage each other after mistakes and losses, challenge one another to be better ball players, and support each other on the field and off," Arianna Tobin said.

Putnam Youth Baseball's Senior Americans only lost four games in the regular season, one game in the county playoffs, and were undefeated at the state tournament. The coaches credited this amazing record to the players for their flexibility and work ethic, cheerfully playing whatever position was asked of them, and striving to do it well to help position the team for the most success.

"Putnam Youth Baseball and those in the Putnam High School boundaries are proud of these young men and of all that they have accomplished," Tobin said.COURTESY PHOTO: ADRIENNE SALVIONE - Senior National team members include, back row from left, coach Mitch Hiebenthal, Asher Tobin, Jorden Buckley, Luke Marlow, Dexter Berge, Lennon Stoll, Wyatt Every, Colby Swift and coach Andrew Tobin. Putnam Youth Baseball's Senior National team had an incredible year, getting third at county and qualifying for state. The team placed in the top eight in the state in their division.

Coaches Andrew Tobin, Mike Nguyen, and Mitch Hiebenthal said these athletes had amazing growth this season. Some of the boys had never played before, while others had years of experience, but they came together as a team to work toward the common goal of placing at county and earning a spot in the state competition.

"Not only was their level of play outstanding, but other teams frequently commented on their good sportsmanship and respectful behavior," Tobin said. "These young men developed strong relationships with each other and their coaches, making it an ideal environment to grow in their sport. These young athletes had an amazing season and are looking forward to next year."
