Lake Oswego resident Annelise Moss has been crowned Miss Lane County. The Oregon State University senior said she entered the competition at the urging of her roommate.

“She said ‘you’d do so great,’” Moss said. “I’ve never done anything like this, so I decided to try out. I had no idea I would win. I went in with no expectations, and my goal was to have fun.”

Modeled after the Miss America pageant, contestants in the Miss Lane County competition are judged in four competitions: an onstage interview, swimsuit, evening gown and talent.

“You pick a question out of a fishbowl for the onstage interview,” Moss said. Her interview prompt was to describe what the Miss America contest meant to young women. “First of all the competition is a scholarship program, so I talked about how it gives young women an opportunity to showcase their talents.”

A ballroom dancer, Moss performed a solo cha cha for the talent competition.

Moss will spend the year of her reign in community service and promoting her platform of bringing awareness of dyslexia in today’s youth.

She is working with Decoding Dyslexia, a national parent-led grassroots movement for dyslexia.

Moss will graduate this spring from OSU with a bachelor’s degree in entrepreneurship.
