Camions of Care to host event Nov. 21

The Portland-based nonprofit Camions of Care will hold an awareness building event at Mountain Park Church, 40 McNary Parkway in Lake Oswego from 10 a.m.-noon Nov. 21. Founded by Nadya Okamoto, Camions of Care is dedicated to helping homeless and impoverished women globally through education, advocacy and service, primarily through distributing packages of menstrual hygiene supplies.

Camions of Care serves women in nine states and in Kenya and Guatemala. Lakeridge High School has a chapter of the organization.

Beyond providing awareness of these women’s menstrual needs, the organization also delivers care packages. Those attending are asked to bring one or two boxes of feminine hygiene products with them, or donate cash for products to be purchased. All proceeds will benefit women in need with their menstrual needs. The word “camion” means a sturdily built cart or wagon for transporting hefty loads.
