Lake Oswego Academy of Dance is preparing for the ninth annual spring fundraising show to benefit Lake Oswego Meals on Wheels. More than 450 dance students will be dancing for dinners from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, May 19 at the Lake Oswego Adult Community Center, 505 G Ave., Lake Oswego.
The dancers range in age from 4 to 17, and will perform tap, jazz, ballet, hip hop and jazz funk numbers.
"Everybody really likes this event," said Patty Cowdery, LOAD office manager. "The dancers look forward to this extra performance of their recital routines. It gives them extra performance experience."
The dancers will perform their recital routines in full costume and makeup.
Admission to the fundraiser is a recommended donation of $5 per person, which is the cost of one freshly prepared Lake Oswego Meals on Wheels meal. Donations over $10 receive a ticket that can be entered into the drawings for gift baskets filled with donations from area businesses.
Lake Oswego Meals on Wheels relies heavily on donations to keep the program thriving. Program volunteers serve more than 18,000 meals annually to area seniors, disabled and homebound Lake Oswego residents. Meals are delivered Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Residents are also offered a sit-down lunch option at the Lake Oswego Adult Community Center.
Lake Oswego Academy of Dance is owned by Rebecca Harriswear.
"We've been in business for 30 years in the community," said Cowdery. "We believe it is important to help out where we can, to make the community better for everyone. That's why we do the fundraiser each year."
