Lobbyists to share travails, triumphs
Willamette Women Democrats (W2D) will present three lobbyists as guest speakers for a meeting taking place from 4-6 p.m. Nov. 14 at Celebrate Conference Center, 15555 SW Bangy Road, Lake Oswego.
The lobbyists include Jess Giannettino Villatoro, Courtney Helstein and Trent Lutz, who have worked throughout Oregon's political structure at the local, state and federal level.
They will discuss their roles as representatives of their constituencies, and share experiences during the Oregon legislative session, plus answer questions.
Villatoro has been political director for the Oregon AFL-CIO for the last eight years. She also serves as the board president of Causa Oregon and chair of the Oregon Labor Candidate School.
Helstein is senior director of government affairs for Strategies 360. She has worked in progressive politics for nearly a decade. Her recent successes include helping to pass the Oregon Family Leave Act and the Reproductive Health Equity Act.
Lutz is director of public affairs of Oregon Educational Association. He has been focusing on securing dedicated revenue for education and was heavily involved in gaining support for the Student Success Act. He has been involved with Oregon policies and politics for 19 years including six years as executive director of the Oregon Democratic Party.
The membership year ended on June 30, 2019, so W2D's membership drive is in full swing. The annual dues of $30 help provide the monthly programs.
Members receive $5 off the general admission price of programs. Cost of the programs is $15 for members and $20 for general public. Light refreshments will be served. Walk-ins are always welcome but to ensure accommodation of guests please RSVP by noon Nov. 11 online at w2dems.com or calling CM Bookkeeping at 503-656-4445.
